Oh Ho-gwon and Jang Ye-rim, master's students (master's program at Los Alamos National Laboratory-Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Engineering Institute-Korea, supervised by Professor Kang Rae-hyung), each received the Best Paper Award at the recent AeroNDT2023 International Conference.
At the conference, Oh Ho-gwon presented research on an impedance-matching technique to increase the efficiency of ultrasonic sensors. Jang Ye-rim presented a study using a laser ultrasonic system to inspect the condition of self-piercing rivets (SPR). Both presentations were recognized for their excellence.
Professor Kang Rae-hyung's research laboratory, to which the two students belong, conducts research to enhance safety through nondestructive testing of various structures.
Professor Kang, who supervised them, said, "We are developing technologies to ensure the safety and reliability of various structures whose internal conditions cannot be adequately assessed. We will continue the laboratory's philosophy of creating a safer society for people, and we will carry out research and development to lead the latest related technologies."
Meanwhile, the Los Alamos National Laboratory-JBNU Engineering Institute-Korea is developing convergence technologies that integrate various fields such as mechanical engineering, electronics, carbon materials and smart materials, flexible printed electronic devices, and 3D printing. The institute possesses state-of-the-art nondestructive testing technologies, smart sensor technologies, material technologies such as composites, signal processing and control technologies, and deep learning–based data analysis technologies, enabling world-class research in the field of structural health management.
