Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (President Yang O-bong) research team of Professor Ra Yong-ho from the Division of Advanced Materials Engineering (Information Materials Engineering) — Research Professor Eom Dae-young, PhD candidate Kim Seong-un, and PhD candidate Oh Jeong-gyun — recently presented outstanding research outcomes at the Fall Conference of The Korean Materials Society and each received an Outstanding Paper Presentation Award.
At the conference, Research Professor Eom Dae-young presented research entitled 'High Performance UV Photodetector Fabricated by Ultra-Long GaN Microwires Structures with New Charge Carrier Transport-Assisting Paths,' proposing methods to significantly improve the performance of nitride semiconductor-based photodetectors.
PhD candidate Kim Seong-un also presented research on 'InGaN Tunnel-Junction Based Nanorod Laser Diode,' demonstrating an approach to develop high-efficiency micro-pixels required for next-generation displays by optimizing nanorod array structures to enhance photonic crystal effects for optical amplification.
PhD candidate Oh Jeong-gyun presented research titled 'Eco-Friendly Hydrogen Production via Solar Water Splitting Using III-Nitride Nanowire Structures.' In this study, the nanostructures developed via metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) processes are highlighted as a promising approach to accelerate the commercialization of eco-friendly solar water-splitting hydrogen production technologies.
Professor Ra Yong-ho, the supervising professor in the Division of Advanced Materials Engineering (Information Materials Engineering), said, 'The researchers from our Semiconductor Device Laboratory were recognized for the excellence of their research by simultaneously winning three Outstanding Paper Presentation Awards at The Korean Materials Society.' He added, 'We will strengthen our research foundation through the development of various new technologies using nitride semiconductors and generate further research achievements.'
Meanwhile, the research carried out by Research Professor Eom Dae-young and PhD candidates Kim Seong-un and Oh Jeong-gyun was conducted with support from the Nano-Materials Technology Development Project promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea.
