Professor Jin-su Kim (College of Engineering, Division of Advanced Materials Engineering) received a Commendation from the Minister of Education in recognition of his contributions to revitalizing and ensuring the stable operation of the Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project promoted by the government.
Director Kim built internal infrastructure to attract the Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project, which the Ministry of Education launched last year to concentrate on nurturing universities with semiconductor education capabilities. He secured support from North Jeolla Province and Jeonju City, and led the effort to be selected for the Co-Growth model in alliance with Chonnam National University.
After the project was selected, serving as director of the Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project Group, JBNU and Chonnam National University established a 'Semiconductor Convergence Major' and developed curricula to train specialists in semiconductors for next-generation mobility linked to local core industries. They have also strengthened educational management systems. Starting this year, they will operate system, memory, and sensor semiconductor tracks, and plan to cultivate practice-oriented, interdisciplinary professionals through employment and entrepreneurship support, field training, and specialized education programs.
In particular, last December he organized roundtable meetings and talk concert events between semiconductor companies and students to support students aspiring to enter the semiconductor field, demonstrating leadership in fostering semiconductor professionals.
Director Jin-su Kim said, "Thanks to the wholehearted cooperation of the many professors and university staff who have worked together on the Semiconductor Specialized Support Project, the project is progressing smoothly. I am sincerely grateful, and I consider this award to be received on their behalf." He added, "We will do our best to train not only students at our university but also regional talent as high-level professionals in the semiconductor field."
