Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) President Yang O‑bong donated 10 million won to the university's development fund on January 1, 2024, the first day of the new year, expressing his hopes for JBNU’s greater advancement. This follows a separate 10 million won donation last year for close-support welfare such as snack distributions for students.

The Jeonbuk National University Development Foundation held a donation ceremony for the development fund on January 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the President's Office, University Headquarters. Key university officials attended the event, and the Foundation presented President Yang O‑bong with a plaque of appreciation.

President Yang's repeat donation of 10 million won signifies his intention to lead by example as president in supporting the Glocal University 30 Project, and in helping the university take off anew as a student‑centered institution committed to regional co‑prosperity and becoming a global hub.

In particular, having declared at the New Year's opening ceremony that this year would mark the inaugural year for advancing into a student‑centered university, President Yang expressed his hope that the fund would be used to improve students' educational conditions and to enhance targeted welfare services.

President Yang said, “Students are the reason Jeonbuk National University exists. I made this meaningful donation on the first day of the new year to signify that the president will take the lead in creating ‘JBNU of the students, by the students, and for the students.’ I hope this contribution becomes an engine of innovation for JBNU as we embark on the bold journey of the Glocal University 30 Project.”
