Honam Cultural Foundation, operated by JTV Jeonju Broadcasting, donated 20 million won to Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) to support the development of local talent.
The Jeonbuk National University Development Foundation held a donation ceremony for the development fund on December 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the President's Office at University Headquarters. The ceremony was attended by President Yang O-bong and Han Myung-gyu, CEO of JTV Jeonju Broadcasting and director of the Honam Cultural Foundation, among others. The foundation presented a plaque of appreciation in recognition of the donation.
The Honam Cultural Foundation's development fund has been designated as a fund to enhance university competitiveness and will be used for scholarships for the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Division of Advanced Materials Engineering (Metallurgical System Engineering) at JBNU.
The Honam Cultural Foundation decided to make this donation to support talent in the mechanical and metallurgical fields in the Jeonbuk region. It had previously contributed 30 million won in development funds.
Han Myung-gyu said, "I joined this donation to support the cultivation of outstanding talent as Jeonbuk National University advances as a Glocal University," and added, "I hope JBNU can fully realize its priority of being a 'student-centered' university."
Founded in 2006, the Honam Cultural Foundation has, to date, supported local community culture and the arts, as well as scholarship programs, with a total of 647 million won.
