The nation’s only hanok-style Blood Donation House opened at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (President Yang O-bong) at 2:00 PM on the 26th.
The "Blood Donation House Jeonbuk Hanok Center," settled in a hanok building in front of JBNU’s Old Main Gate, was established to rehouse the existing JBNU Blood Donation House—relocated earlier due to construction of the JBNU Student Union Building—into a distinctive and more accessible space.
The opening ceremony was attended by JBNU President Yang O-bong, Chairman Kim Cheol-su of the Korean Red Cross, Chairman Lee Seon-hong of the Jeonbuk Chapter of the Korean Red Cross, Director Jo Nam-seon of the Blood Management Headquarters, President Baek Jong-il of Jeonbuk Bank, President Yoon Seok-jung of the Jeonbuk Ilbo, Chairperson Lee Nam-suk of the Welfare and Environment Committee of the Jeonju City Council, and other Korean Red Cross representatives and local dignitaries. Progress reports, a ribbon-cutting, and a plaque unveiling were held.
The Blood Donation House Jeonbuk Hanok Center covers 156.69 square meters. It is equipped with five blood collection beds and three plasmapheresis machines, and aims to serve approximately 7,000 donors annually.
As the country’s first hanok-style Blood Donation House, it is expected to become a local landmark. Located in front of the Old Main Gate, it provides easy geographic access to both the university commercial district and the on-campus community, and is anticipated to play a significant role in increasing the number of blood donors.
President Yang O-bong said, “To date, JBNU’s Blood Donation House has served as a forward base for the stable supply of blood. With the opening of this hanok Blood Donation Center, it will more faithfully fulfill its role in leading the spread of blood donation culture and the development of blood services. JBNU, which is advancing as a global glocal university, will also do its utmost to cultivate talented individuals equipped with the spirit of love and service.”
