President Yang O-bong personally visited major Spanish universities and established a solid cooperative network to attract 5,000 international students through the Glocal University 30 Project.
Having visited major universities in Europe and Africa through the 15th, President Yang moved to Spain on the 11th and visited two major universities to pursue substantive student exchanges.
First, President Yang visited the University of Seville, one of Spain's major national universities. He met directly with the university's international cooperation officials to discuss exchange student programs and the pursuit of dual degree programs, and signed an MOU.
At the University of Malaga, he also visited the Office of International Affairs to discuss ways to expand exchange programs between the two universities. They broadly discussed options for micro-credential completion for exchange students and the pursuit of dual degree programs in engineering.
Notably, he visited the University of Malaga's Department of East Asian Studies, which offers a Korean language major, and introduced Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s acclaimed Korean cultural experience program, '필링코리아'. They also discussed promoting an 'exchange student + internship program' that would enable Korean language majors to study at JBNU and build a foundation for working in Korea after graduation.
He also met directly with six JBNU students currently studying at the University of Malaga and the Autonomous University of Barcelona for a discussion session, listened to their difficulties regarding exchange programs, and sought measures for improvement.
President Yang O-bong said, 'I am very pleased that this visit to major universities in Europe and Africa has produced tangible results in student exchange.' He added, 'We will continue to work hard to establish broad cooperative relationships with overseas universities and government agencies, lay the groundwork for attracting 5,000 international students, and advance toward our goal of becoming a global hub university.'
