Students from the Division of Advanced Materials Engineering, majoring in Metal Systems Engineering, won the top prize at the 7th Steel Industry–University Project Results Presentation organized by the Korea Iron & Steel Association's Steel Industry Human Resources Development Council (hereinafter 'Steel SC').

The Steel Industry–University Project is an R&D program in steel metallurgy that links steelmakers and universities (and students). Until last year, the association operated it under the name 'Metal Learning Group Project.'

The event was attended by industry researchers from POSCO, Hyundai Steel, Dongkuk Steel, SeAH Besteel, KG Steel, Daehan Steel, and SeAH Steel, as well as metallurgy students from 11 universities, including Kyungpook National University, Dong-A University, Pusan National University, Sunchon National University, University of Ulsan, Inha University, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), Changwon National University, Chungnam National University, Korea University of Technology, and Hanyang University.

The JBNU Metal Systems Engineering student team—Kim Seong-jin, Kim Min-hee, Ryu Min-hwan, Park Jae-hyeon, Shin Jae-hyeok, and Choi Jeong-hu (advisors: Professors Lee Seok-jae and Jeong Jae-gil; mentor company: SeAH Besteel)—participated with a study titled 'Improving the Grain Coarsening Temperature through Analysis of Precipitate Behavior' and won the top prize.

The students conducted focused research on alloy design and process conditions for the development of steels for high-temperature carburizing heat treatment and presented excellent research results.

Choi Jeong-hu said, 'By carrying out the assigned task with my teammates, I was able to build practical skills in my field,' and added, 'Based on these results, I will continue to develop my capabilities so that I can demonstrate my abilities in steel-related fields.'
