Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) President Yang Oh-bong, who visited major universities in Europe and Africa through the 15th to secure outcomes such as student exchanges aimed at attracting 5,000 international students, also achieved tangible results in government–university cooperation with Moroccan government agencies.

During this visit, President Yang promised and concluded agreements on substantive exchanges with two universities in France, three in Morocco, and two in Spain, including academic exchanges, collaborative research, student exchanges, and the establishment of international centers.

On his visit to France, President Yang met with the Deputy Mayor for Education of Pessac City to discuss cooperation between Jeonju City and Pessac and agreed to serve as a bridge for exchanges between local governments. He also opened channels for cooperation with key Moroccan government agencies to recruit international students and discussed exchanges with local governments in Jeonbuk.

During the visit, President Yang met with Jeong Ki-yong, Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to Morocco, to discuss measures for recruiting Moroccan students. They held broad discussions on improving living conditions for students from Islamic cultural regions, including introducing halal food in residence halls.

He also met with Mohamed Khalfaoui, Secretary-General (vice‑ministerial level) of the Moroccan Ministry of Higher Education, to discuss expanding Moroccan government national scholarships for outstanding master’s and doctoral students so they can study at JBNU. He stated that they would actively support these students studying at JBNU through the JBNU Glocal University 30 project.

He also met with Grine Abdelmale, a former advisor to the Moroccan Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and a director of the Moroccan Chamber of Commerce, to promote Jinan red ginseng and discuss export measures.

This followed JBNU’s decision to serve as a channel for exporting local specialty products as part of a win‑win project plan with 14 cities and counties in Jeonbuk.

President Yang Oh-bong said, "Through this overseas business trip, we were able to broaden the scope of cooperation not only with foreign universities but also with key national agencies such as the Ministry of Higher Education, local governments, and embassies. We expect this to have a very positive effect on broad regional cooperation and solidarity in Jeonbuk." He added, "Not only JBNU but all 14 of our cities and counties will work closely with major overseas universities and institutions to serve as a bridge for attracting 5,000 international students and contributing to regional economic development."
