Ph.D. candidate Yun Young-jin (Department of Applied Plasma Engineering; supervisor Professor Tae-hwan Kim) received the 16th Graduate Student Excellent Paper Award at the 35th Synchrotron Users Research Presentation and the Association's Annual General Meeting, which was recently held in the conference hall of POSCO International Hall.
The 'Graduate Student Excellent Paper Award' is presented by the nonprofit Korea Synchrotron Users Association. It is awarded to young synchrotron users who are master's or doctoral students and have produced outstanding research outcomes using the Pohang Light Source, in line with the association's founding purpose of promoting the development of academic and technical fields that use synchrotron radiation.
Using the Pohang Light Source, Yun devised a simple method to fabricate 'three-dimensional hetero-nanoparticle superlattices' composed of spherical gold nanoparticles and surfactant micelles in aqueous solution. He then successfully implemented three types of hetero-nanoparticle superlattice structures using this method.
In addition, he has published a total of six SCI-indexed papers, including three papers as first author on research related to nanoparticles and soft materials. His work has achieved high recognition, including being selected as a cover article in The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters (American Chemical Society), a leading international journal in physical chemistry.
Yun Young-jin expressed his gratitude to his professor and other researchers who provided substantial assistance, and stated that he will continue to take the lead in addressing the challenges of phase behavior and structural elucidation of nanostructures.
