Professor Hak-Young Yoon of the College of Veterinary Medicine received the "Young Scientist Award" at the recent scientific conference of the Korean Veterinary Medical Association.
This award recognizes scientists under the age of 40 in the field of veterinary medicine who have received high acclaim domestically and internationally for outstanding research achievements, with the aim of honoring their pride as researchers.
Professor Yoon, who specializes in diagnostic imaging, is a young researcher distinguished for his work on rare cardiac and vascular diseases, abdominal disorders, neurological disorders, and artificial intelligence.
After earning his Ph.D. from Konkuk University College of Veterinary Medicine, he worked as a senior diagnostic imaging veterinarian at the Konkuk University Affiliated Animal Hospital. He then served as Deputy Director of the VIP Animal Medical Center and later established and operated a secondary hospital as the Chief Director of Bundang Leaders Animal Medical Center. In 2020, he was appointed as a professor at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s College of Veterinary Medicine.
In 2022, he became the 18th board-certified specialist in veterinary diagnostic imaging in Korea, drawing expectations that he will play a major role in the field of diagnostic imaging.
Notably, since joining JBNU he has authored more than 20 SCI/E papers as the first author within three years. He has also published over 10 papers in international Q1 SCI/E journals ranked in the top 10% by impact factor (IF). In recognition of these accomplishments, he received an early promotion at the university and was awarded an academic prize hosted by JBNU.
Professor Hak-Young Yoon said, "I am honored to end 2023 by receiving this award," and added, "I will take this award as encouragement to produce even better research outcomes and will work to elevate the level of veterinary diagnostic imaging in Korea to the global stage."
