Alumni of Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) have been making successive donations to fund the expanded implementation of the '1,000-Won Breakfast' program.
At the JBNU Alumni Association's Standing Executive Board meeting held on the 7th, alumni Kang Hyun-shin, CEO of Miracle Lifelong Education Center, donated KRW 5,000,000, and 김동근, Chair of the Faculty Council (Law School professor), donated KRW 1,000,000, totaling KRW 6,000,000 to the Alumni Association Scholarship Foundation. This amount is sufficient to provide a single breakfast to 6,000 students at once.
Choi Byeong-seon, President of the Jeonbuk National University Alumni Association, received the funds for the 1,000-Won Breakfast at the Alumni Association's Standing Executive Board meeting held at 6:30 p.m. on the 7th.
Launched in 2021 by former Alumni Association president 정영택 (director of 온누리안과 병원장) with the parental wish "to feed children breakfast and send them to school," the project has spread nationwide and exerted a positive influence.
On that day, former Alumni Association president 정영택 also awarded KRW 25,000,000 in 'Onnuri Scholarships' to 25 students.
Choi Byeong-seon, President of the JBNU Alumni Association, said, "I am very pleased that this initiative, which began in 2021 from the warm hearts of alumni who care for younger generations, has taken root and is expanding. I sincerely thank the alumni who have continued to extend their support. We will seek to increase interest and expand support so that more students can start their days with a reliable meal."
Meanwhile, the university and the Alumni Association have decided to expand support for the '1,000-Won Breakfast' from next year to provide breakfasts for 150 to 200 students per day, totaling approximately 24,000 students.
The '1,000-Won Breakfast' project is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Jeonbuk National University (JBNU). With additional support from the JBNU Alumni Association, the Jeonbuk National University Development Foundation, and local governments, the program has been actively carried out this year and has provided students with great satisfaction.
