Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has taken thorough infection-control measures to ensure a safe learning environment ahead of the start of the semester amid the resurgence of COVID-19.

JBNU decided to implement fully in-person classes, based on the Ministry of Education's academic operation guidelines and the government's policy of mainstreaming daily infection prevention measures. It applied classroom disinfection standards that prioritize student safety and prepared for the new semester.

Beginning on the 23rd, starting with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the university has been disinfecting all buildings on campus through the 31st. It also sent text messages to all students urging compliance with basic infection-control rules to ensure safe educational activities.

In addition, the university placed disinfectant supplies such as hand sanitizers inside classrooms and at entrances. It is maintaining existing classroom partitions and installing additional partitions where necessary to ensure academic operations are fully prepared for a COVID-19 resurgence.

In particular, colleges and departments have stocked self-test kits to perform rapid antigen tests when symptoms arise. Separate waiting areas have also been prepared for symptomatic students to minimize COVID-19 spread.

To promote individual compliance with infection-control rules, the university produced and distributed guidelines for confirmed cases and Q&A materials, and is actively promoting them via social media in cooperation with the JBNU Student Council.

Residence halls, where students live, will house approximately 4,400 residents for the second semester, including 360 international students. The university is verifying vaccination status in advance and has established a separate move-in registration desk to strengthen measures for suspected symptoms such as fever.

To restrict access by outsiders, personnel to control external visitors have been stationed at each building entrance. The university has also secured 49 COVID-19 isolation rooms as part of its preparations.

President Kim Dong-won said, "The entire university is making every possible preparation to prevent disruptions to face-to-face classes in the second semester due to the resurgence of COVID-19. As we are committed to in-person instruction, we will take thorough measures in various areas and ensure strict compliance with infection-control rules so that our students can have a safe second semester."
