Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s residence hall, which broke ground in 2020 under a build-transfer-lease (BTL) project, was completed as 'Changui Hall' and held an opening ceremony on the 30th.
About 100 people attended the opening ceremony for Changui Hall, including President Kim Dong-won, university headquarters officials, Hwang Gab-yeon, Chair of the Faculty Council, and Residence Hall Director Kim Jeong-ja. They celebrated the opening with an unveiling ceremony and a ribbon-cutting.
Changui Hall, located next to Dental College Building No. 3, has a total floor area of 13,506 m² with one basement level and ten above-ground floors. It can accommodate 752 students. It features 54 single rooms, 329 double rooms, 18 units for married students, and 4 rooms for students with disabilities.
Through three rounds of BTL projects in 2009, 2010, and 2017, JBNU was able to accommodate more than 5,000 students, and with this fourth BTL project it now possesses nation-leading residence halls comprising 15 buildings with a total capacity of 5,797.
At the opening ceremony, President Kim Dong-won said, "Through this fourth BTL project, our university now has nation-leading residence halls capable of accommodating nearly 6,000 people," and added, "We will strive to ensure that the residence halls, through initiatives such as residential colleges for outstanding students, foster students' creativity and serve as a cradle for future-oriented talents who can walk warmly with the local community."
