Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has been selected for four areas in the Ministry-Collaboration Talent Development Program supported by the Ministry of Education.

Launched this year, the program aims to train talent for emerging and advanced industries through collaboration between the Ministry of Education and seven ministries. A total of KRW 42 billion will be invested across 143 universities. As a national agenda, it was newly established and promoted this year as a subproject within the University Innovation Support Project. Through collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the specialized ministries for emerging and advanced industries, the program plans to train approximately 4,300 innovative talents annually and about 13,000 in total by 2024.

In this program, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) was selected in four areas: "Future Vehicles" (Principal Investigator (PI): Professor Il-jae Lee), "Greenhouse Gas Reduction" (Principal Investigator (PI): Professor Young-su Lee), "System Semiconductors" (Principal Investigator (PI): Professor Ki-hyun Kim), and "Geospatial Information" (Principal Investigator (PI): Professor Ji-wook Hwang). Only two national flagship universities, including JBNU, were selected in four or more sub-support areas.

Accordingly, JBNU will operate practical training programs, such as field practicums and internships that respond to industry needs, with support from the Ministry of Education and the collaborating ministries, focusing on the relevant fields.

The Ministry of Education and the ministries will also support the university's personnel expenses, scholarships, development and operation of educational programs, and the creation of educational environments such as facilities and equipment. In particular, the ministries plan to support the university's Industry-University Cooperation activities and employment linkage based on cooperative relationships with industry, including companies.

President Dongwon Kim said, "Being awarded four projects in the program, which is being implemented for the first time this year, recognizes the excellence of our university's research and educational infrastructure," and added, "We will strive to become a cradle for training outstanding talent in future emerging industries by operating practical curricula tailored to industry needs."
