Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has joined hands with the National Institute of Korean Language (Director Jang So‑won) to develop a Korean language proficiency diagnostic system using artificial intelligence and to carry out related work.

The two institutions held an official signing ceremony at the JBNU President's Office at 11:20 AM on July 26. The ceremony was attended by President Kim Dong‑won, Director Jang So‑won, and other key officials from both institutions.

The agreement was pursued to establish a close collaborative framework between the two institutions, which recognized the need to develop AI‑based tools to diagnose the public's Korean language proficiency, to advance methodologies, to provide feedback on diagnostic results, and to develop a system to comprehensively review, manage, and operate these functions.

Under the agreement, JBNU will provide foundational materials for collecting learners' writing samples and conducting assessments. JBNU will also cooperate in operating training programs to develop specialists in diagnostic assessment for learners' Korean language proficiency.

The National Institute of Korean Language will provide indicators for diagnosing JBNU learners' writing samples, provide feedback on the diagnostic assessment results of the writing samples provided by JBNU, and cooperate in operating training programs for writing diagnostic assessment professionals.

Following the signing, the institutions discussed collaborative measures in detail to continue close cooperation for the stable development and application of the AI‑based Korean language proficiency diagnostic system.

President Kim Dong‑won said, ‘It is very meaningful that our university will cooperate in the National Institute of Korean Language’s development of an AI‑based Korean language proficiency diagnostic system to enhance the public’s literacy,’ adding, ‘We will make every effort through close cooperation to develop a diagnostic system suited to the new era.’
