Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), which has played a role not only as the domestic hub for hanok education but also in rooting hanok internationally, will export hanok to the Philippines. In April, it completed a hanok pavilion in Vietnam, and JBNU — which has been exporting hanok to Algeria, the United States and other countries — has achieved another success in spreading Korean Wave culture.

To this end, JBNU recently signed an agreement with CONGRATS 2U, a Korean-affiliated company established in the Philippines (President Park Kwang-cheol), to develop a hanok complex at Ayala Mall, the largest shopping mall in central Manila, through the 'K-TOWN PROJECT.'

Through this project, a traditional hanok pavilion, a Korean garden and Korean-style landscaping around them will be installed at Ayala Mall to showcase the excellence of Korean culture.

Monitors will also be installed at the entrance to continuously introduce Korean culture and JBNU. The site will be designed to stand out more than the Japan Town opposite it, and performances promoting Korean Wave culture will be held there, so it is expected to become one of the Philippines' premier cultural spaces.

Under the agreement, JBNU will cooperate to revive the national traditional architecture of hanok and will export hanok construction and related technologies based on its hanok education and technical expertise.

JBNU will also support technical personnel and materials to create value from hanok and will collaborate on promotional activities related to hanok culture.

Park Kwang-cheol, President of CONGRATS 2U, said, 'By establishing a cooperative model with JBNU, we will take the lead in expanding the network for the globalization of hanok culture. Because the globalization of hanok is linked to the globalization of Korean culture as a whole, we will train specialists to revitalize hanok construction and make our best efforts to produce tangible results through close cooperation.'

President Kim Dong-won emphasized, 'This cooperation is an opportunity to advance technologies for traditional hanok projects that provide a carbon-neutral residential environment and a forward-looking vision, and to promote the excellence of hanok. We will actively utilize JBNU's hanok education capabilities and resources and work proactively with both institutions to establish R&D in the global hanok construction field.'

Meanwhile, JBNU is pursuing hanok exports to countries including Algeria, Vietnam, the United States, Australia, Germany and Bulgaria. In April, it completed a hanok pavilion in Qui Nhon City, Vietnam, and plans to construct a community center and an exhibition pavilion over ten years. It has also agreed to build a hanok pavilion and a traditional garden in Algeria and to construct approximately 40 hanok houses in Georgia, USA, continuing its hanok exports.
