Professor Chanwoo Park (College of Engineering, Division of Mechanical Design Engineering) received the Ministerial Award from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for research outcomes related to energy recovery.
At the Summer Conference organized by the Korean Society of Facility Engineering, Professor Park's paper 'Numerical Analysis of Characteristics of Membrane Heat Exchanger for Exhaust Gas Heat Recovery' was selected as the winner of the Best Paper Award, the Ministerial Award.
This study recovers the high thermal energy and large amounts of water vapor that had been discharged to the atmosphere from industrial boilers or thermal power plant exhaust gases by using a membrane condensing heat exchanger.
It is regarded as a highly valuable technology because it offers significant benefits such as contributing to carbon neutrality and reducing particulate matter in exhaust emissions.
Professor Park said, 'This research presented numerical modeling capable of designing and predicting membrane condensing heat exchangers suitable for various industrial sites that generate exhaust gases. It can serve as basic research data for designing high-efficiency membrane condensing heat exchangers that can reduce vast amounts of wasted energy and recover condensate.'
Meanwhile, Professor Chanwoo Park is actively conducting research in the fields of thermally driven refrigeration, heat exchangers, and energy systems.
