Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s student rural volunteer activities, which had been suspended due to COVID-19, have resumed after three years.
JBNU held a kick-off ceremony for its summer rural volunteer activities at the JBNU Academic & Cultural Hall at 9:00 a.m. on the 5th. The ceremony was attended by President Kim Dong-won, university officials, and students participating in the volunteer program.
Eighty-three students, including the JBNU Student Council, participated in the rural volunteer activities, which resumed after three years. They carried out volunteer work in four villages in the Imsil County area from July 5 to July 8.
Students were dispatched to four villages in Imsil County—Oksan Village, Anha Village, Singi Village, and Bangchuk Village—where they assisted with village cleanups, crop harvesting, and other tasks to help farms facing labor shortages.
To this end, JBNU, as the organizer, conducted pre-event safety training to prevent student accidents. Throughout the volunteer period, JBNU staff remained in the rural volunteer areas with the students to provide on-site guidance and conduct inspections.
President Kim Dong-won said, 'I am very pleased to join members of the JBNU community who are taking on the bold challenge of rural volunteer activities for the first time in three years since the COVID-19 pandemic. Although this volunteer activity cannot heal all of the farmers' hardships, if it leads to an understanding of rural realities and an appreciation for the value of hard work, that alone will be a great support to our rural communities.'
