The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences' Woodworking Support Center (Director Professor Oh Seung-won) is fostering close ties with the local community by providing woodworking experience opportunities that are not readily accessible to residents.

The Woodworking Support Center, as part of the National University Development Project, holds annual woodworking experience events for local residents and has received strong support from the community.

This year, the center began with woodworking workshops for kindergarten students and has prepared additional events such as wooden furniture workshops for families in the local community.

The woodworking program for kindergarteners, which began on June 13, was held seven times and involved 133 children who participated in making traditional eollebit.

The university taught the children how to apply traditional najeonchilgi to wooden eollebit and provided cultural background on the traditional eollebit as well as instruction on the najeonchilgi lacquer technique.

A parent commented, "It was a meaningful time for our children to learn, through both instruction and hands-on experience, the ancestors' aesthetic sense and ingenuity who decorated furniture and household items with shells like conch and abalone in times when ornaments were scarce."

Professor Oh Seung-won, Director of the Woodworking Support Center, said, "We organize these hands-on events to provide opportunities for the public to become familiar with our traditional woodcraft culture by sharing the university's superior infrastructure and capabilities with local residents. We plan to operate a variety of programs to communicate with more community members through traditional woodcraft experiences."
