There is an ophthalmologist known as the 'potato-selling doctor who serves meals.' He is Jeong Young-taek (61, Director of Onnuri Eye Hospital), President of the Jeonbuk National University Alumni Association, who donated potatoes he personally grew to cover juniors' breakfast expenses.

He donated 800 kg of summer-harvest potatoes, his first shipment this year, to a scholarship foundation. The foundation presented the summer potatoes to alumni who had consistently shown interest in supporting juniors' breakfasts. The alumni who received the gift rushed to donate to the foundation. All the funds, large and small, received by the foundation are used to support current students' breakfast expenses.

Jeong said, 'Moved by parents' wish to at least send their children to school after breakfast, I provide breakfasts for juniors,' and added, 'I feel very gratified that the potatoes I harvested myself will be used for breakfast expenses.'

The donated summer-harvest potatoes were grown without soil insecticides or agricultural chemicals, using only compost, which makes the donation even more meaningful.

Jeong said, 'There are still many students in welfare blind spots, such as those from low-income households,' and 'I want to join forces with alumni to expand various programs for current students.'

Meanwhile, in the first half of this year, the Jeonbuk National University Alumni Association provided about 20 million won in breakfast funds to some 7,300 current students.
