Four student teams from the Department of Software (Chair: Lee Ji‑hyun) won awards at the comprehensive academic conference and undergraduate paper competition hosted by the Korean Institute of Information Technology; two teams received Gold Prizes and two teams received Silver Prizes.
The Gold Prizes went to the Picasso Team (Yu Seung‑young, Kim So‑yeon, Kim Yu‑kyung, Eden) and the Metamong Team (Kim Han‑wol, Kim Yun‑ho, Jeong Bo‑gyun, Han Su‑bin). The Silver Prizes were awarded to the 4.O Team (Kim Yu‑sang, Kwak Cheol‑min, Lee Jung‑beom, Jeong Ji‑min) and the CAT Team (Choi Seong‑woo, Kim Hyun‑woo, Lee Yoo‑jung, Lee Ha‑yan).
The Picasso Team, which won a Gold Prize, presented a paper titled 'AI‑Based Malicious Message Detection Method for Phishing Prevention.' They focused on a service that can minimize damage by using a pre‑trained AI‑based phishing prediction model to find effective countermeasures against the recent rise in messenger phishing.
Using LSTM for deep learning model training, the team achieved high accuracy in phishing prediction. They were praised for proposing a system that displays real‑time warning popups on users' Android screens, enabling a rapid response to increasingly varied and sophisticated messenger phishing attacks.
The other Gold Prize winner, the Metamong Team, presented a paper titled 'Collision Avoidance Application for VR Users.' They confirmed that collisions frequently occur as interest in the metaverse grows and devised functions to prevent such accidents.
The study converts 360‑degree video footage that a user records of the surrounding environment into panorama images, depth‑awareness images, edge‑detection images, and dataset formats. These are then mapped into 3D so that obstacles posing collision risks can be recognized within the game environment.
The 4.O Team presented a paper on a 'Deep Learning‑Based Monitoring System for Abnormal Behavior Detection of Elderly Living Alone,' and the CAT Team presented a paper on an 'Integrated Collaboration Support Tool Service Based on React,' both earning Silver Prizes.
Yu Seung‑young (4th year, Department of Software Engineering), a member of the Picasso Team, said, 'I would like to express my deep gratitude to Professors Choi Seon‑o and Yoo Cheol‑jung for their extensive advice on this unfamiliar research area and for guiding us in preparing the paper. We will not stop here; we will continue developing our research to complete a project that helps prevent phishing crimes.'
Kim Han‑wol (4th year, Department of Software Engineering) of the Metamong Team said, 'Although the topic was unfamiliar and presented challenges, I am pleased that our team’s efforts and the careful guidance of Professors Yoo Cheol‑jung and Lee Ji‑hyun produced good results. I hope a variety of new technologies will be researched going forward to contribute to the development of the software industry.'
Professor Yoo Cheol‑jung, who supervised the students, said, 'This achievement is especially meaningful because the students independently selected creative topics aimed at solving social problems and improved their completeness. I am proud of our students who worked tirelessly to enhance quality and produced outstanding work.'
Meanwhile, the Department of Software Engineering at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) recorded an employment rate of 81.0% in the 2020 employment statistics, demonstrating a high employment rate. The department has also distinguished itself in internal and external activities, including winning first place in the 2020 Global Hackathon Competition. In addition, to strengthen students' core competencies, the department supports in‑house special lectures on new technology trends and certification programs to enhance student capabilities.
