Undergraduate student Cheolhyun Lee (Department of Quantum System Engineering, 3rd year, Advisor: Professor Seunghwa Yu) recently received the Docho Outstanding Presentation Award at the 2022 Spring Conference of the Korean Composite Materials Society held in Jeju.
At the conference, Cheolhyun Lee presented the research conducted with Professor Seunghwa Yu under the title "Preliminary Study for Dispersing CNTs in Organic Solvents Using Electron-Beam Irradiation", earning the award.
The research introduced electron-beam irradiation to address the problem that conventional carbon nanotube dispersion techniques cause deterioration of intrinsic properties. The study proposed electron-beam treatment as a simple dispersion method that preserves the material's outstanding properties.
Cheolhyun Lee said, "As an undergraduate, I am pleased to have participated in research prior to graduate school and gained valuable experience. This has given me strong motivation for graduate studies and subsequent research activities. I am grateful to Professor Seunghwa Yu for guiding me to positive results from the experiments through to the presentation."
Meanwhile, Professor Seunghwa Yu's research team is actively studying various topics, including advanced new material fabrication and property enhancement, by controlling the effects of quantum-beam (electron beam, proton beam, ion beam, photon beam, etc.) irradiation on materials.
