Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) was ranked second among regional national universities in the QS World University Rankings 2023 (published in 2022), announced by the UK-based global university ranking organization QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), continuing last year’s placement.

According to the results QS released on the 9th, JBNU raised its ranking as its scores increased for academic reputation, employer reputation, the proportion of international faculty, and the student-to-faculty ratio.

The QS World University Rankings evaluated 1,422 universities worldwide by aggregating measures including academic reputation (40%), citations per faculty (20%), employer reputation (10%) which gauges graduate reputation among employers, the proportion of international faculty (5%) and international students (5%) to assess internationalization, and the student-to-faculty ratio (20%) as an indicator of teaching quality.

In this evaluation, JBNU’s score for the proportion of international faculty rose by 5.6 points, and its student-to-faculty ratio score increased by 3.8 points, indicating an improvement in the quality of student education.

Notably, reputation—which accounts for half of the evaluation (academic reputation 40%, employer reputation 10%)—showed a sustained upward trend, and JBNU’s global ranking has also continued to rise.

Academic reputation has increased for three consecutive years as of this year, and employer reputation has risen for four consecutive years, reflecting the university’s enhanced standing in research competitiveness and related areas.

President Kim Dong-won said, "It is meaningful that JBNU’s efforts to advance as a research-oriented university are receiving increasingly positive evaluations year after year," and added, "We will redouble our efforts to strengthen the university’s fundamentals and to advance as a regional innovation platform university that works closely and warmly with the local community."
