The Center for Gifted Education in Science (Director: Professor Song Gyu-jeong) is operating a mini mentorship program project with the university's Natural History Museum to explore the value and meaning of the urban ecosystem adjacent to the campus.
Beginning on the 4th and continuing through July 29, the course comprises a total of seven sessions. Participants form small groups of about four to five students to investigate topics in fish and bird studies. Field surveys will also be conducted in the Geonjisan and Jeonjucheon areas.
For the fish sessions, Professor Emeritus Kim Ik-su (Department of Biology, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)), known as the "Fish Doctor" for having described 18 freshwater fish species over 40 years, will participate in instruction. The bird sessions will be led by Professor Emeritus Cho Sam-rae of the Department of Biological Sciences, Kongju National University.
Director Song Gyu-jeong said, "Through this mini mentorship program, we expect to provide students with field-based knowledge by enabling them to learn about the surrounding ecosystem through direct experience."
