"Personal mobility devices — be sure to follow safety rules when riding!"
Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (President Kim Dong-won) announced on the 26th that JBNU will promote traffic safety guidance and campaigns to prepare for safety incidents resulting from the increased use of personal mobility devices such as electric kickboards and to create a safe campus environment.
JBNU will conduct on-campus traffic safety guidance and campaigns for all university members once a week for two hours each morning from May 25 to August 10. Centered on Administration Bureau staff, the university will continuously carry out monitoring and enforcement of helmet non-use and speeding for personal mobility devices, as well as traffic safety promotion activities.
Prior to the strengthening of regulations related to personal mobility devices that took effect on May 13 last year, JBNU was the first national university in Korea to establish its own "Traffic Safety Management Regulations" and has spared no effort to prevent accidents arising from the increased use of personal mobility devices.
To that end, JBNU has installed various safety facilities across campus, including raised crosswalks, speed bumps, electronic speed-limit signs, and traffic safety signage. The university has also taken proactive measures such as sending informational text messages to students and conducting ongoing traffic safety campaigns.
Park Seong-su, Vice-President for Administrative Affairs, said, "With the implementation of full in-person classes, student movement on campus and the use of personal mobility devices have increased, so we have decided to implement safety management for personal mobility devices to create a safe campus environment. We will strictly apply relevant regulations to universities that fall into blind spots of the Road Traffic Act and continue to publicize them through campaigns so that all members can enjoy a safe campus life."
