The Jeonbuk Center of the Korea Center on Gambling Problems, operated under consignment by the Industry-University Cooperation (Director Lee Hee‑jeong; hereinafter Jeonbuk Center), will conduct a youth gambling-prevention campaign targeting adolescents in Jeollabuk-do.
Organized by the Jeonbuk Youth Activity Promotion Center, the campaign began in April at Gimje Jipyeongseon Middle School and will run through October. It will be held at middle and high schools across the province to raise awareness of gambling issues.
Through campaign activities, the Jeonbuk Center will provide gambling-problem screening, on-site counseling, sessions to help youth understand gambling and secondary crimes through O/X quizzes, and opportunities to learn about gambling characteristics using a roulette game.
It will also provide information about the counseling hotline 1336 and the Netline service, distribute promotional materials, and implement prevention activities focused on screening and experiential learning for youth gambling issues.
Yun Myeong-suk, Chair of the Operations Committee of the Jeonbuk Center (Professor, Department of Social Welfare), said, "The number of parents coming to the Jeonbuk Center with concerns about their children's gambling is increasing. Youth gambling problems pose risks not only of gambling addiction but also of secondary crimes, such as school violence and fraudulent listings on second-hand goods apps. Through this campaign, we will work to enable early screening and intervention for at-risk groups and to improve youth awareness of gambling issues and prevent their harms."
The Jeonbuk Center is a specialized counseling agency designated by the Integrated Gambling Industry Supervision Committee and operated under consignment by Jeonbuk National University (JBNU). It provides systematic therapeutic counseling services, prevention education, and various community-linked campaigns for problem gamblers and their families in the Jeonbuk region. Individuals and families affected by gambling problems can receive telephone counseling via the toll-free hotline 1336 and chat counseling through the online Netline site (http://netline.kcgp.or.kr).
