"The Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) College of Medicine was a broad foundation where my dreams matured. Although 30 years have passed, I find my younger self in the eyes of our juniors."
Lee Deok-su, director of Lee Deok-su Internal Medicine Clinic and an alumnus from the 15th class of the JBNU College of Medicine, donated 10 million won as a development fund to be used for the advancement of his alma mater.
Lee, who is a classmate of the current College of Medicine Dean Im Seok-tae, has long shown a special affection for his alma mater and its junior students while operating a hospital in the region. Having marked 30 years since graduating from the College of Medicine last year, he decided—on the occasion of this year’s 30th anniversary ceremony held due to COVID-19—to put into practice a generosity he had long contemplated for the College and its juniors.
In particular, he made the donation to lend some support to Dean Im Seok-tae—his classmate and close friend—who has been leading the JBNU College of Medicine’s development across many years to prepare for the next 100 years.
Director Lee said, "I wanted to do something meaningful for my friend and the College's juniors in this meaningful year marking 30 years since I graduated from the JBNU College of Medicine, which has always been a source of pride in my life," and added, "It is a small gesture, but I hope it will be put to good use."
Meanwhile, Director Lee operates the Lee Deok-su Internal Medicine Clinic in Inhu-dong, Jeonju, and regularly provides care for underserved and vulnerable neighbors. He currently serves as an executive director of the Jeonju Medical Association and the Jeollabuk-do Medical Association, and, in particular, as head of the COVID-19 Countermeasure Committee, he has contributed to infectious disease prevention in the Jeonbuk region.
