Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) was recognized as the national hub university that makes the most effective use of its facilities and space.
JBNU announced on the 18th that it had placed first among national hub universities in the Ministry of Education's '2022 National University Facility Space Utilization Evaluation' conducted this year.
The evaluation was introduced in 2009 to encourage national universities to use space efficiently. It assesses each national university's space allocation status and allocates facility budgets according to the results to promote fair and efficient space distribution.
In this evaluation, JBNU received strong ratings across institutional measures such as space management regulations, space utilization rate, space allocation status, and management performance of surplus space, placing it first among national hub universities.
JBNU, led by the Planning Division and the Space Planning Team, minimized disparities among departments by raising space utilization rates and rationalizing space allocation criteria. It has also worked to ensure practical results by managing spaces fairly and efficiently through the application of a space cost accounting system.
To this end, the university collected best practices by benchmarking leading universities that have implemented space cost accounting systems, revised various regulations, and sought to establish space allocation procedures. It also made active use of the 'Facilities Space Utilization Committee,' an advisory body on university facilities and space, to conduct in-depth reviews of on-campus space issues.
As a result of this evaluation, JBNU is expected to receive a 20% increase in facility expansion funds, which should accelerate improvements in the educational environment.
President Kim Dong-won said, 'I am pleased that our efforts to minimize inefficient space and increase stakeholder satisfaction with space allocation have received positive recognition. We will continue to strive to provide better educational and research environments for our community through more efficient management.'
