The Korea Center on Gambling Problems Jeonbuk Center, operated under consignment by the Industry-University Cooperation (Center Director Lee Hee‑jeong; hereinafter Jeonbuk Center), conducted a gambling addiction prevention campaign on the 18th with Sports Toto Korea targeting Sports Toto retail outlet owners and customers in the Jeonju area.
Through the campaign, the Jeonbuk Center distributed gambling problem screening and self-assessment tools, provided on-site counseling, and supplied information on the counseling hotline 1336 and the online Netline service, as well as promotional materials.
They also carried out prevention activities for Sports Toto retail outlet owners and customers, including obtaining signatures on a "Responsible Operation Pledge," which contains a commitment to comply with Sports Toto sales regulations and to refrain from actions that induce excessive gambling among customers, and asking participants to complete a "Responsible Purchase Pledge" to purchase betting tickets responsibly in small amounts.
Yoon Myung‑suk, Chair of Operations at the Jeonbuk Center (Professor, Department of Social Welfare, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)), said, "Gambling problems involving Sports Toto have recently become serious. Continuous prevention activities targeting retail outlets and users are necessary, and we will redouble our campaign efforts to prevent the harms of gambling in advance."
Meanwhile, the Jeonbuk Center is a professional counseling organization designated by the Gambling Industry Integrated Supervision Commission's Korea Center on Gambling Problems and operated under consignment by JBNU.
