Professor Jong-Seok Kim (Department of Biochemistry, School of Medicine) has been honored as the author of the most-cited paper by the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for his research elucidating mechanisms related to breast cancer metastasis. The award ceremony will take place at the international conference of the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology scheduled for May 25 at BEXCO in Busan.
The awarded paper, 'Identification of a New Mechanism Regulating MMPs That Play a Determinative Role in Breast Cancer Metastasis,' elucidates the mechanisms of invasion and metastasis in breast cancer.
Published in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Reports (BMB Reports), an SCI-level international journal published by the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the paper has attracted considerable interest from researchers worldwide and was selected as the most-cited paper.
Professor Kim, who previously served as dean of the School of Medicine at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), has continued research on the role of the tumor suppressor gene PTEN in cancer and aging. He has published more than 100 papers to date. A notable paper is 'Dimethylsulfoxide induces upregulation of the tumor suppressor protein PTEN via NF-kappaB activation in HL-60 cells.' (Leuk Res. 2005 Apr;29(4):401-5)
Professor Kim said, 'As a researcher, the title of the most-cited paper is a greater honor than anything else, and I am very pleased,' and added, 'I thank the colleagues and students who conducted the research with me.'
