“I wanted to repay the many kindnesses I received from my professors while I was at university, and I am glad to be able to put that into practice.”
Shin Sang-yoon, director of Bonpet Animal Hospital in Gwangju (Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), College of Veterinary Medicine, Class of 2005), returned his gratitude to his alma mater and mentors by giving back to his department and junior students.
On the afternoon of May 12, Shin visited JBNU and donated a development fund of KRW 10 million, asking that it be used for the College of Veterinary Medicine's development and for improving student educational facilities. JBNU held a presentation ceremony that day, during which President Kim Dong-won personally presented a plaque of appreciation to express gratitude for the donation.
Originally from Gwangju, Shin, who graduated from JBNU's College of Veterinary Medicine, said that after opening his animal hospital he wanted to repay with a donation the many favors he had received from his professors at that time.
In particular, his special bond with An Dong-chun, the current Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine who had been his mentor during university, led to this donation.
Shin said, “I think anyone can donate if they have the will and the intention, regardless of their circumstances. I am happy to be able to give back even a little of what I received during my school years.” He added, “I hope that younger students will study in better conditions, and in particular I hope they will seek a lot of advice from their department professors and look for things to learn from them.”
