Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Center for Gifted Education in Science (Director Song Gyu-jeong, Professor) has been selected as a host university to operate the '2022 University Career Exploration Camp' organized by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity.

The University Career Exploration Camp aims to reduce disparities in career-experience opportunities for students in underserved areas. Twenty universities nationwide have been selected to run career-experience programs.

Through this selection, the JBNU Center for Gifted Education in Science will offer a total of six programs for approximately 200 students from underserved areas: exploration of science education at the College of Education, creative robot-coding education, mock trials with the Law School, smart-farm career experiences in the agriculture and ecology fields, tours of the College of Veterinary Medicine and the College of Nursing, and campus tours. Professional mentoring for students' career counseling will also be provided.

This year marks the third year the JBNU Center for Gifted Education in Science has operated the camp. The Center plans to actively use its accumulated human and material infrastructure to support youths from underserved areas so they can explore and experience a variety of career paths.

Song Gyu-jeong, Director of the JBNU Center for Gifted Education in Science, said, 'The Center received a score of 4.7 out of 5 in last year's camp satisfaction survey, demonstrating high student satisfaction,' and added, 'This year, we will make further efforts to strengthen the program so that local youth can experience diverse career paths through the camp.'

Meanwhile, founded in 1998, the JBNU Center for Gifted Education in Science has, with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, established itself as the leading institution for science gifted education in the Jeonbuk region for 25 years. JBNU-affiliated professors and an instructional staff of doctoral-level or higher are devoted to gifted education.
