Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) will restore in-person classes for the first semester in line with the government's easing of social distancing measures and the broader transition toward returning to normal daily life.

This follows the Ministry of Education's recently announced 'Post-Omicron School Recovery Promotion Plan,' and involves actively transitioning to in-person instruction, expanding student exchange events and face-to-face activities, and significantly increasing programs for student capacity-building and emotional support.

Accordingly, JBNU has decided to convert all previously partially permitted remote classes to full in-person instruction beginning May 1, and it will implement follow-up support measures for class operation and infection prevention management.

To prepare for this full transition to in-person classes, JBNU actively collected feedback from students, including the JBNU Student Council, until April 25. Students requested that the university ensure basic infection-control measures, such as lifting classroom distancing, removing classroom partitions, and maintaining mask-wearing.

The university said it plans to relax classroom infection-control standards, such as ending the single-seat spacing policy, to secure classroom space while protecting students' right to learn and safety. It also decided to maintain a seven-day isolation period for confirmed cases and to keep classroom partitions in place through the current semester.

JBNU asked faculty to maintain close communication with students regarding any changes to course formats resulting from the full shift to in-person instruction, and it will strengthen monitoring to prevent any decline in teaching quality.

President Kim Dong-won said, 'We expect that normalizing in-person classes will help address students' learning losses and the reduction in social and emotional interactions. As we move to full in-person instruction, we will make every effort to ensure student safety, including infection prevention, so that our students can enjoy campus life again.'
