JBNU's hanok has finally taken root in Vietnam. To build a hanok pavilion in Qui Nhon City, Vietnam, the completion ceremony for the hanok pavilion was held locally on April 26, only about four months after the hanok components were moved there in December.

The civil engineering work and the site were provided by Qui Nhon City, and JBNU's Hanok Construction Technical Workforce Training Project Group (Director: Professor Nam Haegyeong) was responsible for the construction.

At the completion ceremony, President Kim Dong-won, Professor Nam Haegyeong, who led the construction, and Ngô Hoang Nam, Mayor of Qui Nhon City, Vietnam, among others, attended, and celebratory events including a ribbon-cutting were held in grand style.

The hanok pavilion in Qui Nhon City stands on a 200-square-meter site within An Phu Ting New Town (International Trade Zone). Pillars, main beams, rafters, roof tiles, foundation stones, and other necessary components were loaded onto a ship at JBNU's Gochang Campus, transported, and completed through on-site construction.

This hanok was created and built by graduates who completed JBNU's hanok-related training program and later launched businesses. Technical guidance and the drawings were reviewed and finalized together with department faculty, and the assembly was also produced through cooperation between faculty and the start-up graduates, enhancing its significance as a model that integrates education and industry.

In addition, JBNU signed an agreement with Qui Nhon University, a leading higher education institution in the Qui Nhon region of Vietnam, to exchange students, faculty, and academic achievements. A Sejong Institute is established at that university to provide Korean-language education, and the agreement with JBNU is expected to significantly contribute to embedding Korean culture in Vietnam beyond the hanok construction.

President Kim Dong-won said, 'I am very pleased to celebrate today’s completion ceremony of a hanok pavilion, a form of traditional Korean architecture, in Qui Nhon City, Vietnam.' He added, 'We will use this completion ceremony as an opportunity to build a stronger relationship with Qui Nhon City and engage closely with Qui Nhon University to help enhance the competitiveness of both universities.'

Meanwhile, following the first hanok pavilion in Vietnam, JBNU plans to construct a PR center, a community center, and a daycare over the next ten years, and will also build a hanok pavilion and traditional garden in Algeria. JBNU has also signed an agreement to build approximately 40 hanok houses in the State of Georgia, USA, and is currently preparing drawings and performing component woodworking.
