Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) and Jeonju City have joined hands to promote the Campus Innovation Park Project to cultivate multidisciplinary talent and revitalize Industry–University Collaboration.

The two institutions held an official signing ceremony on April 20 at 9:30 a.m., attended by President Kim Dong-won, Mayor Kim Seung-su of Jeonju, and other senior officials from both sides.

The Campus Innovation Park Project designates vacant campus land as an urban high-tech industrial zone and develops a mixed-use area combining corporate space, housing, and cultural and welfare facilities. It establishes an innovation platform through various government support programs.

By actively leveraging the university’s locational advantages and excellent infrastructure, the project offers multiple benefits, including the creation of advanced industry jobs, improved survival rates for post‑BI companies, and the establishment of a high‑density Industry–University Collaboration ecosystem through efficient use of the university’s vacant land.

Under the agreement, the two parties will jointly utilize mutual infrastructure such as sites and convenience facilities from urban regeneration projects (e.g., I-TOWN), and cooperate in creating living conditions related to development, including roads and traffic, access routes, and residential and convenience facilities.

They also pledged to jointly develop support programs for resident companies, provide mutual capacity support, and jointly establish related committees to promote the Campus Innovation Park and ensure its ongoing operation.

Mayor Kim Seung-su said that through technological collaboration between the two institutions, which concentrate expertise, he will actively support the creation of spaces where the university, local government, and companies can communicate, and provide various program supports so that this area can grow into a hub for future industry. He added that the Campus Innovation Park will serve as an innovation hub where young people can obtain good jobs nearby and companies can secure outstanding talent early, and that he will make every effort to produce tangible results for regional development.

President Kim Dong-won responded that the agreement with Jeonju represents an opportunity for remarkable development by efficiently utilizing the university’s vacant land to build a high‑density Industry–University Collaboration ecosystem and promote multifaceted revitalization in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He said JBNU will actively leverage its research capabilities and resources to work with Jeonju to establish a sustainable framework for mutual cooperation in the Campus Innovation Park Project.
