The University Headquarters that will serve as the brain of Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) completed about one year and eight months of expansion and remodeling work and held an opening ceremony in front of the headquarters on April 20.

The opening ceremony was attended by President Kim Dong-won, faculty, staff, students and other key university officials, as well as Jeong Young-taek, president of the Jeonbuk National University Alumni Association, who joined in celebrating the opening.

JBNU University Headquarters was built with a total project cost of KRW 15.4 billion, including national government funding. It includes a 2,540 m² annex expansion and has a total floor area of 9,258 m², comprising one basement level and eight aboveground floors. Construction began in May 2020 and was completed earlier this year.

The new University Headquarters houses key offices leading overall university administration, including the Division of General Affairs, and will drive JBNU's development as a substantive university committed to warm community engagement.

The ceremony, hosted by Jeonju MBC announcer Jin-hyung Jeong, began with a progress report on the project and a commemorative address by President Kim Dong-won, followed by the unveiling of a monument in front of the headquarters.

After the event, attendees toured the University Headquarters and a reception was held for congratulations and thanks.

President Kim Dong-won said in his commemorative address, "This expansion and remodeling project of the University Headquarters will be a turning point that decisively paves the way for our university to advance as a world-class glocal university while warmly accompanying the local community," adding, "I hope everyone will work together so that our university can leap toward the future in this new space."
