Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Industry-University Cooperation Jeonbuk Music Academy (Director Hee-Young Baek) is selecting musically talented incoming students for the 2022 academic year.

The Jeonbuk Music Academy is a music gifted education program supported by the Jeollabuk-do Office of Education and operated by JBNU. It was established in March 2020 to identify students with musical talent at an early stage, develop their potential, and provide differentiated music education programs. In recognition of its achievements in talent development, it was recently selected by the Jeollabuk-do Office of Education as this year’s provincial program for educating outstanding music talents.

The Jeonbuk Music Academy plans to select a total of 50 students from second grade elementary through third grade middle school within Jeollabuk-do in the areas of piano, vocal, orchestral instruments, and composition.

In particular, through the Social Integration Track, students with special educational needs and students eligible for equal educational opportunities will be given priority up to 50% of the recruitment quota. The Social Integration Track is significant in that it provides equal educational opportunities to students who have musical talent but, for social or economic reasons, have not had access to specialized training and therefore have been unable to realize their potential.

The announcement of the selection guidelines for new students will be made from April 6 (Wed) to May 6 (Fri). Application submission will be open from April 29 (Fri) to May 6 (Fri) until 4:00 PM. Applicants should download the application form from the Jeonbuk Music Academy website (https://www.jbmusic-academy.com), complete it, and submit it by email to the Jeonbuk Music Academy at musicgifted@jbnu.ac.kr. The practical examination and in-depth interview will be held on May 14 (Sat).

More detailed information can be found in the Notices section of the Jeonbuk Music Academy website (https://www.jbmusic-academy.com). (Inquiries: 063-219-5228)

Selected students will receive instruction free of charge with the support of the Jeollabuk-do Office of Education. Classes will be held on weekends from May through December at the JBNU Jeonju Campus.

The program is composed of professional and diverse courses led by faculty from JBNU’s Department of Music as well as other prominent domestic professors and specialist instructors to develop practical skills, creativity, and artistry. Regular concerts are also held to provide opportunities for performance on real stages and for prospective musicians to engage with audiences.

The discipline heads overseeing the curriculum are Professor Hee-Young Baek (Piano), Professor Eun-Hee Lee (Vocal), Professors Ji-Hwan Kim and Hyun-Woong Lee (Orchestral Instruments), and Professor Hyuk-Jin Shin (Composition). These faculty members concurrently serve in the Department of Music at JBNU.
