Los Alamos National Laboratory-Jeonbuk National University Engineering Institute-Korea (Director Kang Rae-hyung, Professor, Department of Flexible Printed Electronics) has transferred a non-destructive inspection patent it owns to a company.

The institute announced on the 4th that it recently signed a technology transfer agreement with Ticle Technology Co., Ltd., a particle size analysis specialist, for the patent titled "Terahertz Wave-Based Non-Destructive Non-Contact Inspection Apparatus and Method for Composite Structures."

This technology can detect foreign substances on and within materials for battery separators that cannot be inspected using existing X-ray or other inspection techniques. It is a cutting-edge technology that can improve battery safety in the secondary battery market.

In particular, alongside the technology transfer, the institute has laid the groundwork for closer cooperation with composite materials and secondary battery-related companies by attracting an out-of-region company to the province.

Director Kang Rae-hyung said, "The institute is making efforts to apply its world-class non-destructive inspection technology to a variety of fields," and added, "We expect this patent technology transfer to contribute to the development of the secondary battery industry, one of the country's key industries."

Meanwhile, Los Alamos National Laboratory-Jeonbuk National University Engineering Institute-Korea is developing convergent and interdisciplinary technologies that integrate various fields such as mechanical engineering, electronics, carbon materials and smart materials, flexible printed electronic devices, and 3D printing. It possesses state-of-the-art non-destructive inspection technologies, smart sensor technologies, materials technologies for composite materials, signal processing and control technologies, and deep learning-based data analysis capabilities, and conducts world-class research in the field of structural health management.
