Dr. Seung-chul Lee, director of Sion Women's Hospital in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province (alumnus, Class 8, School of Medicine), donated 100 million won to be used for the development of his alma mater and the training of future scholars.

Dr. Lee, who has continuously supported medical school juniors with scholarships through the alumni association, was prompted to make another donation of this size by his relationship with his longtime friend Oh Gi-su (alumnus, Class 8, School of Medicine), the president of the Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) School of Medicine Alumni Association.

While running his hospital, Dr. Lee has extended his compassion through continued medical outreach to underdeveloped countries since 2003. Celebrating his longtime friend's inauguration as alumni association president, he decided to donate as a way to provide assistance to his alma mater and to medical school juniors.

Dr. Lee said, ‘During my university years I received much care and support from my alma mater despite many difficulties, and I am glad to be able to give back to my juniors.’ He added, ‘I hope this will not be a one-time donation, but that the medical students who benefit from this fund will, after entering society, continue the cycle by making donations of their own.’

Meanwhile, Sion Women's Hospital, operated by Dr. Seung-chul Lee, established the country's first 'Freedom Labor Room' in 2002 and has actively led a new childbirth culture by promoting comfortable, natural childbirth and Leboyer delivery (humanized childbirth). The hospital's medical staff have shown strong commitment to social contribution through overseas missionary work and medical outreach since 2003 in countries including Pakistan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Syria, India, and Nepal.
