Science-gifted students from the Jeonbuk region have begun to take vigorous flight. The JBNU Center for Gifted Education in Science (Director Professor Song Gyu‑jeong) held an online entrance ceremony on March 26 and launched a one-year program.

At the online entrance ceremony held in response to COVID-19, Director Song Gyu‑jeong delivered a greeting and conducted an orientation covering the curriculum and related information.

This year, a total of 186 students enrolled: 57 in the Elementary Advanced Program, 94 in the Middle School Advanced Program, and 35 in the Middle School Mentorship Program. Students in the advanced programs will receive over 100 instructional hours of diverse gifted education over one year, including STEAM education, SW convergence education, and project-based inquiry activities. Students in the mentorship program will receive research-centered, project-based instruction totaling over 80 instructional hours.

Professor Song Gyu‑jeong, Director of the JBNU Center for Gifted Education in Science, said, "At our Center, students will experience a higher level of learning across a wide range of topics they may not have encountered before, including mathematics, science, engineering, and the humanities. We will do our utmost to ensure these gifted students grow through education into leaders who will guide the region and the nation."

Established in 1998, the Center for Gifted Education in Science has been operating as an affiliated institution of JBNU for 25 years with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity. With a sense of responsibility and mission as the leading institution for science gifted education in the Jeonbuk region, JBNU faculty and instructors at the doctoral level and above are fully committed to gifted education. This year as well, the JBNU Center for Gifted Education in Science is providing instruction using state-of-the-art educational facilities and continues to demonstrate its capabilities and quality by receiving excellent program evaluations each year.
