"As an alumnus, I wanted to provide a better educational environment for my juniors."
Kim Hyun-wook, owner of Cheongun Farm, a swine farm in Gimje, North Jeolla Province (Class of 1980, Department of Animal Science), donated KRW 35,000,000 to be used to improve the educational environment for students.
Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) invited Mr. Kim to the university at 3:00 PM on March 16 and held a development fund donation ceremony to express its gratitude.
Mr. Kim graduated from JBNU's Department of Animal Science and has worked in the swine industry for many years. In December last year, he donated KRW 40,000,000 to low-income households, and in 2019 he joined the Honor Society, a high-donor club of the Community Chest of Korea for donors who have given more than KRW 100,000,000, demonstrating his long-standing commitment to helping others.
He decided to make this donation to help his alma mater's junior students grow into the talent who can lead regional and national development.
Using the fund, the university will remodel a lecture room in the Department of Animal Science and name the room "Cheongun Farm — Kim Hyun-wook" to honor his generous donation.
Mr. Kim said, "While living a life of sharing what I have with my neighbors, I have always wanted to do something for my alma mater's juniors as a senior; I am rather pleased to have been able to fulfill that wish on this occasion," and added, "I hope our juniors can realize their individual dreams in a better lecture room."
