"Although it may be only a single tree, we prepared this believing it is a pledge to always remember that we are members of the Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) family."
The group of faculty appointed in the first half of 2020 (Chair Kim Hyun-kyung, Professor, Division of Science Education, College of Education) expressed their affection for their alma mater through a commemorative tree-planting at 4:00 p.m. on the 15th.
On the day, led by Chair Kim Hyun-kyung, Vice Chairs Kim Byung-nam (Professor, Department of History) and Lee Jae-woo (Professor, Department of Polymer -Nano Science &Technology), and other faculty appointed in the first half of 2020 planted western rugosa roses in the newly renovated front lawn of the University Headquarters annex.
The western rugosa rose symbolizes "a refreshing smile." It also expresses the hope that, having overcome the difficulties caused by COVID-19, all members will wear refreshing smiles and move forward with renewed hope.
The faculty appointed in the first half of 2020 have shown particular devotion to the university. Last year, under the leadership of the previous chair, Professor Shim Hyun-ju (School of Pharmacy), they raised 30 million won and donated it to support the university's development.
The current leadership said, "The philosopher Spinoza left a notable saying about planting a single apple tree; it means doing one's best with the given outcome. We will always remain true to our original intentions, be attentive to students in lecture halls and laboratories, and work for the development of the university that made us who we are." They added, "In the new semester, we hope that, like the flower's meaning, gentle hearts will keep smiles on everyone's faces."
