Through the Fourth Phase BK21 Graduate School Innovation Project, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (President Kim Dong-won), which has been supporting balanced academic development and the training of the next generation of scholars within the university, held a results exchange meeting for a research support project to revitalize graduate research.

The JBNU Graduate School solicited proposals last year for the "GEONJI Research Support Project" from 21 education and research groups participating in the Fourth Phase BK21 Project and selected 20 research projects—14 in the natural sciences and engineering and 6 in the humanities and social sciences. Research in various fields is being conducted through January next year.

At the results exchange meeting held at Donghaeng Hall in the New Silk Road Center at 2:00 p.m. on the 15th, the 20 teams carrying out the research projects presented their research topics and progress to date and shared opinions related to the GEONJI Research Support Project.

At the event, the project "Smart Crop Monitoring Using a Polarimetric Method" (Researcher: Kim Jong-yun) from the JIANT-IT Human Resources Training Project Group (Director: Professor Lee Ji-hoon) and 19 other projects shared their research directions and outcomes to date. In particular, the six teams involving the Graduate School of Archives and Records Management, the Department of International Trade, the Department of Social Welfare, the Department of English Language & Literature, and the Department of Chinese Language & Literature are expected to make a significant contribution to revitalizing research activities among graduate students in the humanities and social sciences, which have been relatively constrained compared with the natural sciences and engineering.

The 20 teams that presented on the day are required to publish papers by January next year: teams in the natural sciences and engineering in international scholarly journals (SCIE) and teams in the humanities and social sciences in domestic professional journals (indexed journals) or above.

Cha Yeon-su, Dean of the JBNU Graduate School, said, "We provide a forum for collaboration and communication to revitalize graduate research by sharing the processes of outcome generation among researchers, sharing excellent research cases, and seeking superior research approaches. We will strive to become a world-class research-oriented university by proactively training master's- and doctoral-level talent that can lead responses to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and changes in population and social structure."
