The research center launched after being selected for the 4th phase of the BK21 Project, the Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Research Center for Training Green-Bio Talent in Control of Animal and Plant Hazard Factors (Director Professor Kim Jae-su), has achieved results to date including two cases of royalty income and three cases of Technology Transfer through excellent research in microbial pest control.
Professor Kim Jae-su, who researches microbial pest control, transferred the insecticidal microorganism strain ERL836 to 팜한농 Co., Ltd. in 2017. The products '총채싹' and '총채싹 플러스' have been launched on the domestic market and showed remarkable growth through last year.
Last year, Professor Kim also transferred another new insecticidal microbial strain, JEF-507, to 글로벌아그로 Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of 경농, and it is expected to be commercialized this year in the domestic market as a microbial insecticide for sap-sucking pests.
Professor Kim Kwang-pyo of the same research center has conducted research on controlling harmful bacteria using bacteriophages and bacteriocins, presenting an alternative to the overuse of antibiotics in the food and livestock sectors. In 2018, three bacteriophages for the prevention of avian typhoid were transferred to 코미팜 Co., Ltd., and a product called '에스지가드' was launched and is being sold; overseas release is currently underway this year.
Professor Shin Dong-hyun developed a method using big data techniques to discover genomic variants in whole genomes that can be applied to domestic breeding pig selection. He transferred the technology, which can secure superior genetic resources within a breeding pig genomic selection system, to 엘에이에스 Co., Ltd.
Professor Lee Hak-gyo also transferred the analytical technology required to build a genomic selection program that can be used at major domestic breeding pig farms to 피그진코리아 Co., Ltd. This is expected to accelerate the pace of breeding improvement in the future.
Research Center Director Professor Kim Jae-su stated, "Our research center operates under the belief that a single excellent study by university researchers can change and benefit the world, and we strive to produce better research outcomes." He added, "Given the positive results to date, such as Technology Transfers followed by product launches, we will continue to work to achieve even better outcomes."
