Siwoo Law Office (Busan-based) representative attorney Choi Jae-won (a 2012 graduate of Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Law School) visited JBNU on January 24 and donated 10 million won to the development fund, asking that it be used for Law School students.

At 3:00 p.m. that day, JBNU invited Attorney Choi to campus and held a ceremony to present the development fund. President Kim Dong-won and Dean Song Yang-ho of the Law School attended, and the university expressed its gratitude through the presentation of a plaque of appreciation and other gestures.

Attorney Choi said that, after graduating from JBNU in 2012 and practicing law, he had long wanted to contribute to the university's development and help his juniors with their studies. He added that he was pleased to be able to put into practice something he had long contemplated.

Attorney Choi said, “Starting with this donation, I realized that giving to the university and to my juniors is not a difficult thing,” and added, “I will continue to play an active and engaged role in supporting the university's development.”

He also said, “I currently operate a law firm called Siwoo Law Office in Busan, and I understand that many JBNU alumni also live in Busan. I will endeavor, together with alumni in Busan, to contribute to the advancement of my alma mater and to the prosperity of the alumni community.”

In accordance with Attorney Choi's wishes, the fund will be used as scholarships for Law School students.

Meanwhile, Attorney Choi received the Korean Bar Association's Outstanding Lawyer Award in 2019, and while working as a public defender he handled various criminal cases and secured numerous acquittals.

Additionally, Attorney Choi currently serves as a member of the Warrant Review Committee of the Busan High Court and as a member of the Investigation Review Committee of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, and is recognized for his high level of expertise in the field of criminal law.

Furthermore, Attorney Choi worked for many years at a maritime-specialized law firm, handling international arbitration and international litigation, and has extensive experience in corporate advisory work, shipbuilding and marine matters, and corporate M&A.
