Student Song Jeong-min (School of Medicine, Department of Medicine) earned the honor of being the nationwide top scorer on the 86th Medical Licensing Examination.
The 86th Medical Licensing Examination, held on the 6th and 7th, was taken by 6,043 candidates, of whom 5,786 passed, marking a 95.7% pass rate.
Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) student Song Jeong-min passed the exam with the highest score among all candidates, scoring 303 out of a possible 320 (equivalent to 94.7 out of 100).
Song attributed the honor of topping the exam to the School of Medicine faculty's passionate instruction and continuous mentoring. According to Song, the School provided appropriate administrative support for exam preparation, and during the fourth year, professors personally led special lectures and offered support in every respect. Song said it was deeply moving to see professors standing outside in the cold on exam day to cheer the students taking the exam.
In particular, Song said the Clinical Skills Center (CMS Center) established by JBNU helped her gain great confidence for the practical portion of the exam. JBNU has operated the center since 2006 to provide high-quality clinical training opportunities for students and local health care professionals.
This year, marking its 50th anniversary, JBNU's School of Medicine demonstrated its competitiveness in medical education by obtaining a six-year accreditation from the Korean Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation. Last year, KRW 14.3 billion in national funding was allocated to begin construction of the Biomedical Life Convergence Building, which will include state-of-the-art practice labs and large lecture halls, as part of efforts to enhance educational competitiveness for students.
Song said, "When I was in my second year of the clinical program, I participated in a medical volunteer trip to Kenya with professors. It was a valuable time that allowed me to reflect on what kind of physician I want to become. I sincerely thank the professors who gave me this valuable opportunity and accompanied me, and I will grow into a physician who combines skill with a warm heart."
