Students from the Department of Environmental Engineering (team leader Kim Kyung-min; Kim Chae-young, Kim Hyun-seo, and Jung Jae-hoon) won the Excellence Award at the Korean Society of Environmental Engineers' Undergraduate Comprehensive Design Competition.

The Korean Society of Environmental Engineers' Undergraduate Comprehensive Design Competition aims to cultivate environmental engineers with creativity and design skills. Teams composed of Department of Environmental Engineering students present future environmental engineering technologies through design projects that they plan, design, and fabricate themselves.

Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) students submitted a "Shared Washing Unit for Plastic Containers Using Water Treatment and UV-C." The project addressed the problem of waste plastics being incinerated rather than recycled. As a result, it increased the net recycling rate and received high praise.

Team leader Kim Kyung-min said, "When we first conceived the design, our goal was to seek solutions to environmental pollution that would help improve the environment and to make the device easy for anyone to use in daily life. Although there were many obstacles in implementing the design, overcoming them allowed us to grow, and I believe that because we persevered through those difficulties we achieved this favorable result."
