Department of Environment and Energy graduate students Jin Park and Yonghwan Cho (master's program; advisor: Professor Ki-Tae Baek) recently received Outstanding Paper Awards for their excellent research at the Korean Society of Groundwater and Soil Environment.

Jin Park presented a paper titled 'Reduction of Arsenic Mobility by Encapsulation with Silica in Paddy Soil,' which received favorable reviews.

The study investigated silica-based stabilization to encapsulate arsenic bound to iron oxides in paddy soils, thereby reducing arsenic transfer to crops.

Yonghwan Cho presented research in a paper titled 'Remediation of Heavy-Metal–Contaminated Groundwater Through Alkalinity-Generating Reactive Zones,' proposing an approach to remediate acidic groundwater contaminated with multiple heavy metals. His work was well received.

Meanwhile, students of the Department of Environment and Energy have elevated the department's reputation through a series of research achievements, winning honors not only at the Korean Society of Groundwater and Soil Environment but also Outstanding Paper Awards from the Korean Society of Environmental Engineers and the top Young Researcher Award from the Korean Society of Waste Management and Resource Circulation.
