Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Department of Software Engineering, together with the Jeonbuk Regional Big Data Technology Exchange Joint Research Association, held the Jeonbuk Regional Big Data Forum for big data technology exchange and dissemination of outcomes on the 13th at JBNU's Jinsudang Gain Hall.
Held as part of the Big Data Innovation Shared University Project, the forum was attended by members of the JBNU Department of Software Engineering, Ahn Jung-yong, Director of the Big Data Innovation Shared University Project Group (Department of Statistics), three central/administrative agencies, seven public institutions, three academic institutions, companies affiliated with the Jeonbuk ICT Convergence Development Forum, the Saemangeum Development Corporation, and other organizations.
Aimed at exchanging big data technologies and disseminating outcomes, the forum featured seminars including 'Introduction to the Big Data Innovation Shared University' by Ahn Jung-yong, Director of the Big Data Innovation Shared University Project Group; 'Personal Data Protection Act and Safe Data Usage' by Shim Dong-wook, Head of the Data Safety and Utilization Division at the Korea Internet & Security Agency; and 'Recent Cyber Threat Trends, Countermeasures, and Big Data Information Security.' The event was followed by exchanges of opinions and discussions among participating organizations on various big data–related technologies.
Professor Yu Cheol-jung (Department of Software Engineering, JBNU), who serves as Chair of the Jeonbuk Regional Big Data Technology Exchange Joint Research Association, stated, 'We hope this year will see the expansion of big data–related industries in the Jeonbuk region, based on strengthened cooperation with the JBNU Big Data Innovation Shared University Project Group through education and seminars, and the roles of 14 MOU partner institutions, including the National Pension Service.'
Participants said, 'As the importance of big data has recently been emphasized, this forum provided a valuable opportunity for information exchange,' and added, 'We will strive to advance big data–related development across various areas based on the opinions and recommendations presented at the forum.'
Meanwhile, last year JBNU was selected as a participating university in two fields — Big Data and New Energy Industries — for the Ministry of Education's 'Digital New Technology Talent Training Innovation Shared University Project.'
The Digital Innovation Shared University project is a new 'Korean New Deal' initiative carried out from 2021 to 2026. It aims to build a cooperative framework in which universities jointly utilize dispersed educational resources in new technology fields, and industry, research institutes, academic societies, and private organizations participate to cultivate nationally core talent.
Through the Big Data Innovation Shared University project, JBNU is expanding access to new-technology education infrastructure related to big data for students at regional universities and is developing educational programs for students at nonparticipating universities and the general public.
